Ah, lovely Naples. Situated on the western edge of the Everglades, it's a surprising contrast to the area that surrounds it, with waterfront mansions, upscale dining and a general air of wealth and privilege. That's not to say it's unapproachable – the town embraces the good life, and it invites you to do the same.

The beaches here are absolutely gorgeous, with wide swaths of powdery white sand. The shoreline is easily accessible and parts of it are blissfully noncommercial, lined with Mediterranean-style mansions instead of condos and surf shops. If you're spending the day, try Lowdermilk Park or Clam Pass County Park.

Among the town's cultural offerings is the Baker Museum, with a slick, modern building and manicured grounds. For shopping and dining, head downtown to Old Naples or to one of the town's tony outdoor malls. And if all that opulence makes you yearn for some nature, head south on Tamiami Trail and you can be on the edge of the Everglades in half an hour.
